Taste of the Valley

Insider's Exploration of Dry Creek Valley

2009 Porsche Artisan Wine & Luncheon Tour
Our 6th annual tour took us to Kachina’s new winery in Dry Creek Valley. The winery is reminiscent of being in old Italy with the architecture portraying old world Tuscan charm. Here in front of the big, rustic door, we were greeted by familiar faces: Mom, Christina, Frans, and sister Viv.  This event was especially exciting, not only because the new winery was unveiled, but strolling on the grounds, and having lunch on the crush pad will be forever remembered. As with all our past tours, today was no different. Basking in 100 degree weather, thank goodness there were a lot of umbrellas and places to cool down, (in the barrel room, or under the old oak trees). Lunch was provided by Chef Mike Matson along with wife Melissa and assistant DeAnn of local Vintage Valley Catering. To learn more, please visit their website: www.vintagevalleycatering.com. Afterwards, we visited Peter and Marian Van Alyea with son Chris, the winemaker of Costa Azul/Christopher Cameron Vineyards.  Into their grand winery/barn to cool off and sip on award winning wines of Merlot, Cabernet, Petite Syrah, Zinfandel and Chardonnay blends. You could sense the pride this family has for their winemaking and it shows in their tasty wines. To learn more, you can visit their website: www.ccvwines.com.

2008 Porsche Artisan Wine & Luncheon Tour
Our 5th annual tour took us once again to Kachina Vineyards where we feasted on fine wines and a wonderful lunch alfresco.  The whole Kachina gang was back to meet you, and pour our wines: Mom, Christina, Frans, and first time Diane Wilson.  After almost 2 hours of wining and dining Greg hailed the whole gang to visit a small Artisan winery up in the hills of West Dry Creek called Montemaggiore.   Montemaggiore is owned by Vince and Lise Ciolino with son Paulo.  They produce an outstanding Syrah, Rose, and Olive Oil.  All from their mountainside estate vineyards.   To learn more, please visit their website at: www.montemaggiore.

The tour started Healdsburg at 10 am, Saturday July 8th. From there we worked our way through Alexander Valley to our first stop, tasted some Cabernet with chocolate covered strawberries and then moved on to our next winery where we feasted on pulled-pork, estate olives and great wine. We then motored on over to Dry Creek Valley
